Leon Chalmers Deardorff Jr. of Mercersburg turns himself in to police

The Mercersburg man who police named as a suspect in the Wednesday night hit and run near Marion that claimed the life of a Greencastle man has turned himself in to authorities.

Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday that Leon Chalmers Deardorff Jr., 29, of Mercersburg, voluntarily surrended to troopers from the Chambersburg barriacks in the Borough of Carlisle around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Keith Monninger, 37, of Greencastle, was killed in the 7 p.m. accident March 7 on U.S. 11 at the intersection of Overcash Road and Solical Island Road in Guilford Township.

Deardorff was allegedly driving a box truck that collided with the motorcycle Monninger was driving Wednesday evening and left the scene without offering aid.

Police are now processing Deardorff on charges of homicide by vehicl, accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly license and additional misdemeanor and summary offenses.

A preliminary arrangement will be held at the Franklin County Jail.
