A Greencastle-Antrim High School senior remains in the York Hospital with serious injuries, but is reportedly responsive after a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 81 in Antrim Township.

Pennsylvania State Police said a 17-year-old female was injured in the 7:13 a.m. accident just north of Exit 5 of the interstate. School officials confirmed that the driver was a senior and was on her way to school when the accident happened. Authorities have not released the name.

According to a police report, the girl was traveling south on I-81 when the rear passenger side tire of the 2006 Ford F-250 she was driving blew out. She lost control, crossed the left lane, went into the median, struck an embankment and rolled over.

Police said the driver was taken by helicopter to York Hospital with major injuries.

As has been done in similar circumstances, school officials made counselors available in the middle and high schools for any students who needed help dealing with the tragedy.
