Several members of the Franklin County Department of Emergency Services, Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) deployed today to Juniata County to assist with assessment and recovery from Wednesday evening's storms.  The team deployed with the command and control emergency response unit to assist Juniata County Emergency Management Agency in their response to the storm.  The DART established a communications hub in East Waterford, allowing coordination of response and recovery efforts with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Juniata County Emergency Management Agency, Franklin County Department of Emergency Services, and other response agencies.

The team was also deployed to assess the damage in a twelve to fifteen square mile area.  The DART examined several hundred structures for damage, reporting the damage to Juniata County Emergency Management Agency for assimilation into a comprehensive damage assessment.  The DART also assessed streams and low lying areas for flooding, power outages, and discovered and reported on a hazardous materials incident that was in progress.

In addition to Franklin County Emergency Services and PEMA, the National Weather Service, and agricultural agency representatives also responded to assist.
