A 75-year-old Franklin County man faces almost 200 charges involving the alleged molestation of a 9-year-old girl, according to court documents filed by the Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg.

David Helfrick of Zullinger faces charges that include deviant sexual intercourse with a child, sexual aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a minor and harassment, according to court documents.

On Sept. 30, police learned of a man in his 70s who was caught in the act of molesting a 9-year-old girl in Antrim Township. The man, later identified as Helfrick, had fled the scene.

During a police interview with Helfrick, he is alleged to have admitted he is attracted to children but never meant to do anything sexual with them, according to court records.

Helfrick was placed in Franklin County Jail and denied bail on the grounds that no amount could ensure the safety of the community.

He is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 12.
