Dr. Kendra Trail will be resigning as superintendent of the Greencastle-Antrim School District.

GREENCASTLE — The Greencastle-Antrim School Board is scheduled to vote Thursday evening to accept the resignation of Dr. Kendra Trail, district superintendent.

Trail, who joined the district in May 2017, is resigning effective June 30 to become assistant executive director of Lincoln Intermediate Unit No. 12.

The motto of the G-A School District is "Children First" and one special child is at the center of what Trail called an "agonizing decision."

She became a nana when Lawson Trail was born in April 2019.

"I've been blessed and honored to lead three organizations, but since the birth of my grandson, my priorities have changed," Trail said. "It's time to take a step back.

"Life is precious. I want to maximize as much family time as I can," added Trail, who has 31-year-old twins, Jenae Parkolay and Jaret Trail, with her husband Ronnie.

Trail noted she has been in charge in her last three positions and is ready for less responsibility, more flexibility and working only one evening a month.

Like the G-A post, the LIU job was not something Trail was looking for.

She was executive director of Intermediate Unit No. 11 when there was a frustrating superintendent search in Greencastle and she was asked to apply.

Both the director and assistant jobs were open in the LIU in the spring and Trail did not apply. When the assistant executive director slot opened up again in the fall, she said something to someone in passing and was encouraged to apply, pray about it and weigh the pros and cons.

"It's an unexpected door that opened in another season of my life," said Trail, adding she had fully expected to retire from the Greencastle-Antrim School District.

She said she spent many "agonizing hours" on the decision.

"This is such a great place to work and the board has been overwhelmingly supportive," Trail said. "It's unbelievable how dedicated the staff and administration are to students. That's why we're here — for the students."

Trail and the school board worked together to set her annual goals, and accomplishments have included a safety plan, a technology plan and researching school start times.

The G-ASD board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Antrim Township Municipal Building, 10655 Antrim Church Road, Greencastle.
