An Antrim Township family was not at home late this afternoon when fire gutted their house on Whispering Springs Drive.

Rescue Hose Co. firefighters were joined by units from multiple companies around the area to battle the 5 p.m. blaze at the home of the Johnson family. The home is in a development off Williamsport Pike in the area of Hoffman and Worleytown roads.

A guinea pig and a lizard were rescued by firefighters, who remained on the scene for several hours dousing hot spots in the two-story home.

Neighbors said a family of five, including three school-aged children, lived in the home. Fire officials have not been available this evening to provide further information, including a possible cause.

Fire company resources in Franklin County were stretched today as a brush fire was going on in the Chambersburg area this afternoon when the calls came in on the Antrim blaze.
