Greencastle scene of serious bicycle/car crash Friday morning

A bicycle rider was seriously hurt early Friday near the intersection of U.S. 11 and Walter Avenue in Greencastle.

Greeencastle Police Chief John Phillippy said the man was thrown from the bike after it was struck by a passenger car.

Phillippy said the man, who was very critically injured, was taken by ambulance to the Rescue Hose Company firehouse and was air lifted to Meritus Medical Center.

A reconstruction unit from the Pennsylvania State Police was on the scene of the accident for several hours.

Traffic was directed through the area by fire police for about four hours following the 6:20 a.m. accident.
