GETTYSBURG — A Greencastle-Antrim Baseball-Softball Association team captured the PA District 14 Senior League Championship Tuesday night with a 6-5 win over host Gettysburg.

The tournament, played under the Little League Inc. umbrella, advances the local team into the Section 7 Tournament next week in Newville.

The Greencastle team won three one-run games en route to bringing home the championship banner. The squad got by Newville 4-3 and host Gettysburg 1-0 before meeting Gettysburg again Tuesday evening in the championship game.

Gettysburg struck first in the seesaw affair, scoring in the bottom of the first. Greencastle answered with a pair in the top of the third, but the home team came right back with a three spot in the fourth.

Ryan Marconi drove home a run in the top of the fifth on a single and Jimmy Beavers pushed around two more on a triple to give Greencastle a lead it would not relinquish. Ethen Hildebrand added some insurance in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that scored Marconi.

Greencastle pitching combined well to hold off Gettysburg when it needed to. Middle reliever Chase Farrow inked the win with an inning and a third of work. Cade Bender earned the save, fanning four.

Along with starter Beavers, the crew recorded nine Ks and limited Gettysburg to six hits.

Offensively, Beavers led the way, going 3-for-3 with the triple and a double, along with two RBIs. Bender had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

District 14 champion Greencastle will face teams from District 23 and 28 in the Section 7 event. Greencastle will open play in that tournament Thursday, July 7.
