A school board member just past the half-way mark of her first term resigned from the Greencastle-Antrim School Board last night.

Lura Hanks was not present, but had sent a notice to the board earlier in the day. She was stepping down for personal reasons.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I submit my resignation on a position I have truly enjoyed, effectively immediately," she wrote.

Hanks added that she was also pursuing a doctoral degree.

She was elected in November 2013 to a four-year seat.

"We're going to miss her," said fellow member Linda Farley as the board accepted the departure.

Farley was named vice president to fill Hanks' official role.

Letters of interest to complete Hanks' term may be sent to G-ASD Administration, c/o Jim Winslow, 500 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle PA 17225 by 4 p.m. May 5.
