Franklin County hires Director of Emergency Services

CHAMBERSBURG —  The Franklin County Commissioners announced the hiring of John K. Thierwechter, in the position of Director of Emergency Services.  Thierwechter is a 25 year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police; he spent approximately half of that time working in Franklin County as a Patrol Trooper, Patrol/Criminal Investigation Supervisor and Chambersburg Station Commander for 5 years.

At the time of his retirement, he was a Major assigned as the Executive Director of the Bureau of Records and Identification.

During his career with the Pennsylvania State Police, Mr. Thierwechter was twice assigned as the acting Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Justice Network (J-Net).

Thierwechter graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  

“We welcome Mr. Thierwechter to the county ranks, and look forward to his leadership of this critical public safety function,” said Commissioner Dave Keller, Board Chairman.

Thierwechter will begin his duties with the county Jan. 14.
