Paul Schemel of Greencastle won the Republican primary over Rita Daywalt of Waynesboro Tuesday for the 90th District state representative seat being vacated by Todd Rock.

Schemel's name will appear on the general election ballot in the fall.

According to unofficial election results, Schemel, an attorney, received 3,030 votes in the district that includes Greencastle and Antrim Township. Daywalt polled 2,569 votes for 45.79 percent of the tally to 54 percent for Schemel. The district also includes Waynesboro and Mont Alto and the townships of  Washington, Quincy Hamilton and Letterkenny.

No Democrats ran in the primary for that party nomination. There were 238 write-in votes on those ballots. No tally of who received those votes is yet available.

If elected in the fall, Schemel would be the first Greencastle resident to represent the district in nearly four decades.
