Samuel B. Forney

Samuel B. Forney, age 58, of Greencastle, died at 5:06 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 in his home. He had been in declining health the past several months.

Born Sept. 25, 1955 in Waynesboro, he was the son of Harold B. and K. Joanne (Brewbaker) Forney of Greencastle.

He was employed for 32 years as the high school band director for the Greencastle-Antrim School District, where he directed the field band, concert band, indoor guard and percussion and jazz ensemble.

Mr. Forney dedicated his life to his music programs.

He was a 1973 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, 1977 graduate of West Chester University in West Chester, and also received his master's degree in music from West Chester University.

Sam was a member of the Franklin-Fulton County Music Educators Association.

Surviving family, in addition to his parents, are one brother, Joel L. Forney of Marion; two aunts, Rhoda Forney and Gladys Fritz, both of Greencastle; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 from the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, with Rev. Stacy A. Crawford officiating.

Burial will be in the Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.

For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
