OBITUARY: Anna Lee “Jake” Sigler

Anna Lee “Jake” Sigler, 83 years of age, of 711 Oakland Ave., Hampton, Va., died June 30, 2012, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton.  She had been in failing health for several months.

Born Jan. 18, 1929, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Anna Pearl Cooper (Rebook) and Philip W. Cooper. She spent her early life in Greencastle, graduating from Greencastle High School in 1946.

After graduating from high school, Anna Lee “Jake” immediately went to work as a telephone operator until Greencastle went dial two years later.

Anna Lee “Jake” and Layton Earl “Pete” Sigler were married Oct. 21, 1948. They lived in Greencastle until 1988 when they moved to Winter Springs, Fla. They returned to Greencastle in 1992, where she lived for the next 16 years. On Dec. 12, 1994 her husband, Layton “Pete”, passed away.

Anna Lee “Jake” was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle; volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout aide as her children grew up; actively participated in the Greencastle-Antrim High School Band Boosters; and while living in Florida, regularly coordinated plans for the Newcomer's Club.

Anna Lee “Jake” was an avid reader, being Stephen King's “number one fan”. She enjoyed keeping her mind busy doing crossword puzzles and word find games, vacations in Florida, attending classic car Cruise-Ins and spending time with family and friends.

Anna Lee “Jake” is survived by her daughters, Beth Ann Sigler, who she resided with in Hampton, and Sue Ellen Bingaman (Sigler), who lives in Greencastle. She is also survived by the one, the only, the favorite granddaughter, Kellie Anne Bingaman, who lives in Greencastle. She has one sister, Phyllis “Bib” Brenner, who currently lives in Maitland, Fla.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Suzanne Marie Sigler.

Services will be held at noon Friday, July 6, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with Richard Overcash officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.  

The family will receive friends at a public viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
