During its regularly scheduled meeting this evening, the Greencastle Borough Council announced the hiring of Susan Armstrong as its new assistant borough manager.

Armstrong, 49, has approximately 23 years of municipal government experience. Her public service career began at Guilford Township where she worked for the Water and Township authorities until June 2001 at which time she began her employment with the Borough of Carlisle. She has served as Carlisle's Assistant Borough Manager since 2008 and Acting Borough Manager since February 2012.

She will begin her duties as the assistant borough manager in Greencastle  Sept. 17. She will assume borough manager duties when current borough manager Ken Womack retires, currently anticipated at the end of 2012. Womack noted that this transition period will give Armstrong ample opportunity to become fully familiar with Greencastle Borough and borough operations.

According to Council President Charlie Eckstine, “The selection of Ms. Armstrong concludes a search, which began in spring 2012. The position was advertised in local newspapers and on the Pennsylvania State Association's Job Junction web site. The advertisement attracted interest from professional managers across Pennsylvania and other states including Georgia, Florida, Texas, Indiana, Delaware, New Jersey and Tennessee. We are confident we have selected someone who has the experience, skills, ability to communicate and talent necessary to be an effective borough manager.”

Based on a review of credentials identified in 22 resumes received, 11 initial interviews were conducted, some by telephone. Five applicants received second interviews. Borough Council interviewed three final candidates on June 4 and 6.
