OBITUARY: Donald E. Eshleman Sr.
Donald E. Eshleman Sr., age 75, of 738 S. Washington St., Greencastle, died at 5:33 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the Waynesboro Hospital following a brief illness.
Born June 22, 1936 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ada S. (Horst) Eshleman. He married Marie (Hege) Eshleman on Sept. 7, 1958 in Lemasters.
Don retired June 30, 1991after 31 years of employment with Corning Glass Works, Greencastle, where he had been Production Planning and Inventory Control Manager. Following retirement, Don has worked at the Penn National Golf Course for the past 22 years.
He was a 1954 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1956 to 1960.
Don was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ, Greencastle, where he served on Consistory, sang on the church choir and taught Sunday School.
He also was an active life member of the Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle, where he served as company president, driver, chaplain and held several other officer positions and worked on many committees.
Don also helped with the Boy Scouts of America and served on the Mason Dixon Council Board of Directors.
Surviving family, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Donald E. (husband of Julie) Eshleman Jr., Douglas A. (husband of Jennifer) Eshleman, all of Chambersburg, and Tony C. (husband of Carol) Eshleman of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters Margaret L. (wife of Aldine) Martin of Greencastle, Audrey J. (wife of Paul) Clopper of Greencastle; two brothers, Charles E. “Sonny” Eshleman Jr. of Chambersburg and Carl E. Eshleman of Greencastle; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, from the Grace United Church of Christ, 128 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, with Rev. Wayne A. Warren officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Grace United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 128 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the Rescue Hose Co. Seagrave Restoration Fund, 842 S. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
