OBITUARY: Leavitt Merle Keener

Leavitt Merle Keener, age 93, of Greencastle, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 in his home after a brief illness.

Born, July 13, 1918 in Cearfoss, Md., he was the son of the late Aaron D. and Anna H. (Martin) Keener.

He and his wife, Elva Grace (Meyers) Keener where married Oct. 29, 1939 in Huyett, Md. She died Aug. 12, 2009.

Mr. Keener was the owner/operator of Modern Milling Company for 35 years.

Following his retirement he enjoyed collecting and restoring British sports cars.

He was a member of the North Side Mennonite Church in Hagerstown and was a volunteer with Book Savers.

Surviving family are two sons, Leavitt M "Sonny" (husband of Bette) Keener of Lancaster and Dewayne M. (husband of Mary) Keener of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one daughter, Regina M (wife of Milton) Keener-Lewis of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Nathan Keener of Hagerstown, Md. and Aaron Keener of Greencastle; eight grandchildren; four great granddaughters; three step grandchildren; and two step great grandsons.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce M Keener; two sisters, Lois Baer and Mary Oberholzer; and two brothers, George Keener and Edgar Keener.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 from the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, with Pastors Gary Zook and Roger Martin officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church and one hour before the service on Saturday.
