Madison Street end in sight for Greencastle

Barry Craig in the track hoe, and Lance Moore in the pit, work for Fayetteville Contractors to prepare Madison Street for a basecoat this fall. The final paving will be done in the spring.

The end is in sight for the Madison Street construction project. Borough personnel hope that by the end of next week all of the paving will be done.

Some of it is. Madison was reconstructed between Allison Street and Ridge Avenue, and today those residents are driving and parking on a smooth surface. Paving from Allison to Washington Street was set for this week.

Fayetteville Contractors was fixing another spot containing unsuitable soil for a new roadbed. Monday it was removing the fill from a section near the police department, and after installing a new stormwater drain pipe, will add shale and stone for the roadbed.

Work will continue all the way to Jefferson Street.

Because Greencastle is not using liquid fuel funds, the project can run beyond PennDOT’s deadline of Oct. 15. The weather has allowed the crews to keep plugging along.
