Since several members of Greencastle Exchange Club are motorcycle enthusiasts, they decided to carry that enthusiasm forward into a fundraiser. Their "Christmas Ride for Local Children" will be Saturday, Oct. 15 in Chambersburg. Participants should meet at M&S Harley-Davidson, 160 Falling Spring Road, to register between 9 and 11 a.m. Entry fees are $10 per rider and $5 per passenger.

The last rider will be out at 11 and the last rider should be in by 2 p.m. from the 66 mile route. Food and activities will also be part of the day.

Kelly Mower, a club member and rider, said Exchange typically held only a golf tournament to raise money for its Christmas project, but the need was up and so were costs, so another event was necessary to raise money to purchase gifts for children in the Greencastle-Antrim School District.

Last year over 100 children were served. Exchange obtained the names from the schools, and asked the parents what the youngsters would like. They spent approximately $50 per child, wrapped the gifts and delivered them the Saturday before Christmas.

"The number increases each year because of people losing their jobs," said Mower. "It's a huge undertaking, but you walk out of there with tears in your eyes. People are very grateful."

The Christmas project has been ongoing for 23 years.
