Pennsylvania State Police are warning residents to be careful when wiring money, especially if the wire transfer goes out of the country. Sometimes the request for money is a scam.

An Antrim Township woman received phone calls between Aug. 1 and 4  from someone in Mexico pretending to be her grandson. She made several Western Union transactions to Mexico City. The identity of the caller is unknown.

Police urge people to be cautious when wiring money to relatives, especially if the relative is in another country and the transfer is going to another country. Confirm with other relatives that the money is actually going to whom it is intended.
