A young boy who apparently hopped a train suffered a serious injury Wednesday afternoon when he jumped off the moving railroad in Antrim Township.

Pennsylvania State Police said it appears the 11-year-old boy, who was reportedly from Chambersburg, was jumping off a Norfolk Southern train at Friendship Village Road just south of Kauffman Road around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. Police reported the youngster sustained a major injury to his left leg. The boy was flown to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Police and Norfolk Southern officials are investigating how the juvenile got onto the train and where.

According to reports, an inspection of the train was conducted around noon that day after someone reported seeing a person on the train. The train, that contained 21 cars and was on a trip from Harrisburg to Hagerstown, Md., was searched and nothing found.
