OBITUARY: Kathryn C. Eshleman
Kathryn C. Eshleman, age 90, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, and formerly of South Ridge Avenue, Greencastle, died at 12:42 p.m. Thursday June 2, 2011 in the nursing home.
Born Dec. 23, 1920 in Broadway, Va., she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mattie (Brunk) Cline.
She married John C. Eshleman March 20, 1941. He died April 10, 1996.
She was a graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School and had attended Eastern Mennonite College.
Kathryn was a member of the Marion Mennonite Church.
Kathryn was an extraordinary woman of myriad talents and interests. A homemaker her whole life, she took her vocation seriously and her patience with children was unmatched. As an organic gardener, she was well known for her tomatoes, fruit growing and Bantam eggs. Her culinary skills were legendary. She was an avid reader, constantly educating herself and sharing her knowledge with all who knew her.
Surviving family are three daughters, Lavonne Ward of Altadena , Calif., Kathleen Forney of Greencastle and Margaret Gendive of Annandale, Va.; two sons, John E. Eshleman of Upland, Calif. and Roger Eshleman of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Good.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12 from the Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway S., Chambersburg, with Rev. Carl D. Kniss officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.
Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the Building Fund of the Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway S., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
