The Franklin County Prison Board voted unanimously Friday to hire Daniel Keen of Mechanicsburg to be the new warden at Franklin County Jail. He will replace John Wetzel, who left to become Secretary of the PA Department of Corrections. Keen comes to Franklin County from Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, where he is Director of County Prison Inspection and Services for Pennsylvania's 63 county jails.

On his appointment, Keen said, “I am very honored and excited to be accepted as the warden for Franklin County Jail. I admire the work and dedication that former warden John Wetzel conducted while he was there. I want to continue his legacy and strive for excellence that he envisioned for the Franklin County Jail.”

Wetzel said, “Dan is a great fit for Franklin County and quite capable of taking the facility to the next level.”

Keen has more than 13 years experience in corrections beginning as a correctional officer at Clinton County Jail.  Keen then served as a corporal at the Montgomery County Maryland Correctional Facility. After four years at that facility, he returned to Clinton County Correctional Facility as a lieutenant. Keen later became warden at Bedford County Correctional Facility.

Keen plans to join Franklin County Jail May 2.
