Greencastle water/sewer bills delayed

Greencastle Borough Manager Ken Womack has reported the mailing of first quarter water/sewer bills has been delayed as a result of problems with the transition to the borough's new accounting/billing system.  Bills originally scheduled to be mailed March 31 are expected to go out early on the week of April 18.

Womack noted that the delay is the result of having to reconcile a small number of account balances to ensure data transferred from the old system is correct in the new system. “We want to be sure, to the best of our ability, that the new billing system correctly reflects the customer's information and that water and sewer charges are accurately applied,” Womack said.

Because the bills were delayed, the borough will adjust due dates and penalty dates. As a result payment will now be due Friday, May 13.  Bills not paid by May 13 will incur the normal 5 percent penalty.  Bills not paid by May 31 will also incur the additional 10 percent penalty and be subject to a notification of termination if not paid by June 2.

Womack also noted that meters were read on the normal meter reading dates and the amount now due represents the usual first quarter billing period.

“We apologize for this delay in getting the bills out and any inconvenience it causes our customers,” Womack said.  If the delayed billing and the adjusted payment dates result in a hardship for customers they are asked to contact the borough office at 717-597-7143 before the bill is due to make payment arrangements.
