Greencastle sets 2011 budget

Greencastle's 2011 proposed budget is available for public review both on the borough Web site and at borough hall. The council met in special session Nov. 23 to finalize the document. It will adopt the final budget on Dec. 6.
As tallied by borough manager Kenneth Womack, the general fund is balanced at $1,675,520, up $145,000 from last year. The police department continues to comprise the largest line item, 31 percent, at $571,710. Three percent raises were planned for the fulltime officers, as per their collective bargaining contract. Parttime officers and borough employees were given a one percent raise. Benefits jumped from $32,900 to $48,010 from last year. Capital expenditure projects include $235,000 for storm sewers and $337,000 for street construction.
The sewer fund is also balanced with $1,450,740 in revenue and expenditures.
In other business, council members approved free downtown parking from Dec. 1 to 31.
