Crews work on sidewalk ramps in Greencastle

PennDot crews began work on 17 handicap accessible ramps at corners on Baltimore Street on Oct.19. The project comes on the heels of the 2009 paving of the main thoroughfare.
Construction manager Alan High said the state was required to bring crosswalks on its roads into federal compliance with Americans With Disability Act standards after any contract work.
The included ramps are from the CVS corner at the U.S. 11 intersection east to Linden Avenue. High said the affected corners were only where there were pre-existing crosswalks on PennDOT streets. Some of the excluded corners were the responsibility of the property owners.
