Be A Star! annual giving campaign launched at Capital Theatre

The stars performing on the stage aren’t the only stars at Capitol Theatre Center with the launching of the popular cultural arts center’s third annual giving campaign, where each donor is also considered a star for showing their support of the popular venue. The annual Be A Star! campaign is being chaired by John Massimilla, V.P. for Administration and Chief Operating Officer for Chambersburg Hospital, and the goal for the campaign is $125,000. Over $44,000 has been raised for the campaign as of Tuesday, Sept. 21 through a combination of corporate and individual gifts and pledges. The campaign committee’s work is anticipated to take the theatre to its goal by the end of the year. In addition to current one-on-one contacts by committee and board of trustees members, the plan calls for a direct mail campaign to current theatre patrons, active media outreach, Facebook communication and the opportunity to give online at www.thecapitoltheatre.org
Campaign proceeds will be used for operating support and should help sustain theatre operations through 2011. Massimilla said, “We are optimistic about reaching and even exceeding the goal of $125,000. As always, it will take a lot of hard work. We are extremely grateful to every individual and every business that supports the Capitol Theatre Center. People care about the theatre and we take our role seriously in maintaining its health and vitality for all to enjoy. ”
In January, 2010 ownership and governance of Capitol Theatre Center, a 501(c)3 organization, was transferred to Capitol Theatre Center Foundation from Downtown Chambersburg Incorporated, and this Be A Star! annual giving campaign will be the first conducted with Capitol Theatre Center functioning in its new independent capacity.
Joan Mitchell, Chair of the Foundation, has been involved with each of the Be A Star! annual giving campaigns. Mitchell stated, “Capitol Theatre Center’s first two annual campaigns were extremely successful, having raised over $125,000 in gifts and pledges each year. Hundreds of towns and cities nationwide — many of them much larger and more affluent than ours — have lost their historic theaters to the wrecking ball and urban redevelopment. So, it’s been very gratifying to see how much support there is in this community for the wonderful work the Capitol Theatre does. Thanks to our donors, high-quality professional entertainment is available here at affordable prices. Donor support is also enabling us to reach out to new audiences in new formats, which is critical to sustaining the theatre over time.”
