33rd Autumn Festival set Oct. 2 on Kaley Field

The 33rd Autumn Festival, sponsored by the Greencastle-Antrim Band Booster, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 on Kaley Field. It will be a Cavalcade of Bands competition.

Five bands will compete and the Greencastle-Antrim High School Field Band will perform in exhibition and perform the Star Spangled Banner.

Advance tickets will be $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens, available from G-AHS band members or at the high school band office. Gate prices are $8 for adults and $6 for students or senior citizens.

The following bands will compete: Freedom Conference — Waynesboro; Independence Conference — Trinity; American Conference — Frankfort, James Buchanan and Littlestown.

The Greencastle-Antrim High School Blue Devil Marching Band 2010 program is entitled, “New World Variations,” which was written by David Shaffer. “New World Variations” is a set of four variations based upon the hymn song from the Largo movement of Symphony No. 9 by Antonin Dvorak.   

This year's band consists of 41 playing members along with 12 color guard members and is under the command of drum majors Amber Crider and Brittany Spangler.  Band student leaders are Katie Benedict, Danielle Burkett, Ryan Carty, Tommy Hogue, Ethan Koons, Patti Kotrady, Hunter Rawlings, Juliet Seidel, Austin Stoler, Meghin Sweitzer, Amanda Toms and Amber Zulauf.

The band has a long tradition of excellence in field band competition, which includes being a five-time Chapter VI Champion as well as an 11-time Atlantic Coast Finalist. Most recent honors include the 2001 USSBA 2-A Champion, 2003 USSBA 2-A Pennsylvania State Champion, 2004 USSBA 2-Open Pennsylvania State Champion, 2005 Independence Open Champion of Cavalcade of Bands and 2nd Place in the 2006, 2007 and 2009 American Conference Open Championships of Cavalcade of Bands.    

Featured soloists are: Brittany Spangler - trombone, Amanda Toms - mellophone, Meghin Sweitzer - alto saxophone, John Coda - alto saxophone, Sean Martin - trumpet, Amber Crider - trumpet, Stephanie Winn - piccolo, Carly Hafer - alto saxophone, Megan Wilcox - guard, Holly Plank - guard and Danae Oliver - guard.

This year's band staff consists of: band director, Samuel Forney; assistant band director, Rod Walters; pit percussion instructor, Brock Bricker; percussion instructor, Jeff Carty; percussion instructor, Todd Seville; guard instructors, Kelly Bouder and Jay Wetzel; guard volunteers, Shelly Hostetter, Tiffany Bricker; visual instructor, Ryan Eberly; drill designer, Richard Boandl.
