Following the kickoff of the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library’s capital campaign, which was held in July, donations and pledges to date are approximately $132,000.

As a continuation of fund-raising efforts, brochures will be mailed to more than 8,000 residents of the Greencastle-Antrim community during the week of Sept. 13. Attached to the brochure is a tear-off contribution/donation form, which can be mailed or hand-delivered to the library. Contributions and donations may also be submitted online at, the dedicated website for the capital campaign.

The Besore Library does not receive any tax money to maintain the physical structure or construct capital improvements. The library tax that is paid annually with property tax bills goes into the Franklin Country Library System and is designated to pay for books, staff salaries, programming and other services. The only source of funding for the building maintenance costs comes from the interest earned from the library’s trust, established many years ago to ensure the future of the library.

“Now is the time when the Greencastle community, along with other loyal supporters can come together to improve and expand our local, small-town library building,” said Patti Divelbiss, campaign chairperson. “Not only is this a place to read and borrow books, but we have a computer center for public use, passport services and reading groups for children of all ages.”

Members from the campaign committee are available to speak to groups or individuals about this $1.2 million project. There are naming opportunities available. Call the library at 717-597-7920, for additional information or requests for speakers.
