First Friday Greencastle from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6 is out to show that there is no place like our hometown for shopping, food and fun.

Many merchants are having all-day shopping specials, and 23 artists are participating, the most to date. Gallery 7 will also be open at 107 E. Baltimore St. at the office of Charles L. Strausbaugh, CPA, PC.

Also on the slate for the evening is the first ever, First Friday pie baking contest sponsored by Tower Bank. Stop by to watch the judging or conduct your own taste test by purchasing a pie whole or by the slice! The pies will be sold at the Boy Scout concession stand on the square.

In addition to bragging rights, cash prize, and a commemorative apron, the first place winner will have his or her pie featured on the Antrim House menu for a limited time! The second place winner will receive $25 and an embroidered apron. The third place winner will receive an embroidered apron, and all participants will receive a reusable First Friday grocery bag.

Other highlights include Roy Pitz Brewery at the Antrim House for a beer tasting, Coffee House Poetry night at the Antrim House from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and the Rolling Coyotes band performing live on the square.

The Rolling Coyotes hail from Shepherdstown, WV and play an eclectic mix of music with wide appeal, often interjecting outrageous humor and intense emotion. Steve Warner, Nancy Lynn, Andy Mosholder, and Elliot Simon perform well-crafted originals and beloved songs from great songwriters such as Stephen Foster, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, Fats Waller, Ray Davies, Johnny Mercer, and Hoagy Carmichael.
