Greencastle Boy Scout Troop 99 will hold its eighth annual Flag Retiring Ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, June 14 at the Antrim Township Park, Grant Shook Road. The ceremony will take place at the large pavilion.

In the coming weeks, Troop 99 will collect worn and tattered American Flags from the community to be used in the retiring ceremony. Anyone wishing to contribute a used flag for retirement may contact any of the troop's leadership or call Bill Yoder at 762-4064. Flags can also be dropped off at 302 W. Seventh St, Waynesboro; Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, 408 S. Washington St., Greencastle; and Monday evenings at the train station on South Jefferson Street, Greencastle.

The troop plans to make the ceremony community focused and wishes to invite all local residents and civic groups to attend.  The troop's sponsoring organization, the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, as well as the Greencastle American Legion will be supporting the event.

Scouts from the troop will lead the ceremony, which is designed to show patriotism and respect for the nation's flag. The ceremony will culminate with the disposal and burning of old American Flags. Light refreshments will be provided.

Due to limited seating at the pavilion, please bring along a lawn chair.
