New zoning districts highlight meeting

A worksession on possible zoning changes in Antrim Township brought out a crowd March 4. Residents and developers shared with the Board of Supervisors their support and concerns on the first conceptual plan created by zoning officer Sylvia House. The number of districts had been reduced from 12 to five.

"I thought the meeting was great," said House. "We had a good turn out and everyone spoke up, which is what we wanted."

She noted that business owners favored the changes, but residents worried about the amount of community commercial proposed.

Administrator Brad Graham concurred. "Both citizens and some supervisors thought the reduction in zones was too much. Developers wondered how it would affect their interests. It was a very good meeting with a good exchange of information."

The township will evaluate the comments and revise the map, House said. She hopes to have another discussion on the topic at a March meeting.

Graham said any changes will take up to two years, as the uses for each district will have to be decided.
