Tuesday, Nov. 3 is election day in Franklin County. Greencastle and Antrim residents have contested races in all three local governing bodies. Voters may go to the polls from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to indicate their choices for elected officials.

The Echo Pilot solicited answers to two questions about pertinent local issues from the candidates. Their answers appear on Pages A-8 and A-9 of the printed edition.

Contested races

Five candidates seek four four-year seats on the G-A Board of School Directors. Republicans Joel Fridgen, Brian Hissong, Michael Shindle and William Thorne and Democrat Don Richards are on the ballot. Fridgen and Thorne cross-filed so their names will be on both ballots.

Greencastle Borough Council has six vacancies. The three candidates for two two-year seats are Democrat Michele Emmett and Republicans Matthew Smith and Mark Singer. The five candidates for four-four year seats are Emmett, Smith and Republicans Charles Eckstine, Harry Foley and Craig Myers.

In Antrim Township the three candidates for two six-year terms are John Alleman, James Byers and Fred Young III. All are Republicans although Alleman cleared the primary with the Democratic nomination.

Also on the ballot

Greencastle mayor Robert Eberly, a Republican, is running unopposed for a four-year term.

Candidates for local tax collectors also have no opponents. Barbara Bock, Republican, is on the ballot for the borough, and Sue Myers, who cross-filed, is after the township position.

Lesser-known elected seats have resulted in only one runoff and many vacancies. For Antrim 1, Faye Mentzer, Democrat, and Linda Murray, Republican, seek the four-year seat as Inspector of Elections. Republican Bonnie Kell is unopposed in Antrim 3. Also in Antrim 1 Cheryl Thrush, Republican, is unopposed for Judge of Elections and Democrat Patricia Plasterer seeks the same four-year seat in Antrim 3. In the remaining Antrim districts and in both Greencastle wards no one is seeking the positions.
