Borough citizens can join Beautification Committee
A Beautification Committee has been formed for Greencastle, and more members are welcome to join. Borough Council President Charles Eckstine invites interested persons to contact him at 372-5301 or through the borough office. Currently agreeing to serve are Marissa Pinto Burt, Ginny Lays, Nancy Stein, Tom Pensinger and Darrell Miller.
As a result of the Town Hall meetings last spring, the committee was created by council to achieve some goals identified by citizens.
The Beautification Committee would have three purposes, according to Eckstine. It will provide leadership on cleaning up the town in general, obtaining 'Welcome to Greencastle' signs for the four gateways into the borough and deciding where flowers could be put to increase the visual beauty of the community. The members may also have other ideas for the town.
One example of how the committee could be of service, he said, was if a resident was physically unable to handle a cleanup task, the volunteers could make arrangements for an individual or organization to step in to assist.
The committee will report to the Community Development Committee, headed by Duane Kinzer. Eckstine hopes any projects undertaken will be completed before Old Home Week next August.
