G-A teams head to postseason; both hoops teams make districts

Greencastle-Antrim High School winter athletic teams are headed to the postseason.
Final District 3 basketball power rankings came out over the weekend and both Blue Devil hoops teams earned a place on the bracket. The G-A girls’ team (20-1) pulled the fifth spot on the rankings in Class AAA.
Vying for a spot in the largest division, the Devil boys’ squad (14-7) made the cut at number 18 in Class AAAA. Meanwhile the G-A wrestling team is gearing up for the sectional event on Feb. 20 that can send individual athletes on to the next level of district competition.
Following their dramatic win over Boiling Springs Thursday that clinched the Colonial Division championship, the Blue Devil girls still have some business in the Mid-Penn Conference Tournament before districts begins. G-A will represent the Colonial in the conference event Tuesday, Feb. 9, in a semifinal. The Devils will play Cumberland Valley, the top-ranked team in District 3-AAAA, in a 6 p.m. game at Big Spring High School.
Admission for the event is $6 for adults and $4 for students. There will be no tickets sold in advance. No passes will be accepted.
While the official District 3-AAA bracket will not be issued until sometime Monday, the fifth ranking should put the Devils into a first round game against the 12th seed. Unofficially that would be Fleetwood. G-A, the defending district champion, is expected to host that Wednesday, Feb. 17, game at a time to be announced. A win would mean a quarterfinal Saturday, Feb. 20, against the winner of a game between the fourth seed (Susquehannock) and the 13th seed (Eastern Lebanon County).
With its 18th ranking, the G-A boys’ team will likely face a playin game Friday, Feb. 12. According to the rankings, that would be Manheim Township (13-9), and the game is slated to be held at the higher seed. The winner would earn a game against the second seed.
The sectional wrestling tournament will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, at Mechanicsburg High School. Seeding for the Class AAA individual competition will be done the night prior to the event.
