In a split second — about the time it takes to blink your eye — an accident, injury or other health issues can change your life forever. For 30 years, local residents of southern Franklin County and portions of Washington, Adams and Frederick counties have counted on the advanced life support team of Medic 2 to treat and help save the lives of thousands. With our trained responders, you can rest assured knowing the best emergency care is available to you and those you love 24 hours per day,7 per week.

The Advance Life Support Unit Medic 2 has kicked off its annual membership drive for the membership year of July 2014 through June 2015. Area residents can expect to receive their membership brochure and application in the mail. A Medic 2 membership ensures that a member will not be responsible for any balance from deductibles or services not covered by insurance.

Memberships are a source of funding that keeps Medic 2 providing life-saving emergency services 365 days a year. The current operating budget for fiscal year 2014 is over one million dollars.

Another benefit of having a membership is it will cover inter-facility transports in Medic 2's Mobile Intensive Care Unit from the Waynesboro Hospital to another care center, such as Hershey Medical Center or Johns Hopkins. Again the membership will help offset any outstanding balance you may incur from what insurance companies do not cover.

Medic 2 was founded in 1983 as a specialized emergency ambulance service for those suffering from a serious illness or injury. It was originally operated by Emergency Room staff at Waynesboro Hospital and is still housed today at the same facility.

Today, it consists of a team of specialized paramedics able to perform on-board functions such as cardiac monitoring, airway management, provision of intravenous fluids, drug management, and other advanced emergency care both on the scene and en route to the hospital.

Medic 2 operates in conjunction with your local ambulance squad with units in Greencastle, Waynesboro and Mercersburg. Medic 2 will treat patients in need of an advanced level of care, bringing many of the capabilities of the Emergency Department to a patient. Medic 2 is a separate operation and entity of its own and IS NOT affiliated with any of the local ambulance squads from Waynesboro, Mont Alto, Blue Ridge Summit, Greencastle, Mercersburg, Marion, Fayetteville or South Mountain.

The Medic 2 board of directors would encourages memberships with both local ambulance companies and with Medic 2.
