Greencastle AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) joined over 100 communities from New York to Hawaii Saturday, May 3 when thousands of children of all ages set a world record in a one-day soccer pick-up event.

As part of the AYSO’s 50th anniversary celebration, #SoccerFEST14 made soccer history across hundreds of U.S. soccer fields with tens of thousands of participants playing soccer, showing off their soccer moves, having fun, making new friends and enjoying a great day of sports and activity. Across the country 14,628 youth soccer players in nearly 140 communities were involved in the record-breaking day.

In Greencastle about 100 participants joined in this momentous day, making soccer history. Boys and girls ages 4 to 13 shuffled and organized onto new, one-day "pick-up" teams, meeting new teammates to play a series or abbreviated, small-sided games of pick-up soccer.

The month of May is also National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, sponsored by the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
