The corner of East Baltimore Street and South Ridge Avenue has been noisy lately, but it was necessary for the preliminary steps of the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library remodeling project. Eagle Construction began work in early December, assigned to add a children's wing and upgrade other sections of the 50-year-old facility.

Lane Mowen from Eagle said construction was on track. The foundations have been laid and the plumbing is roughed in, with pouring of the floor scheduled for next week.

So far no surprises or delays have been encountered.

"The excavation is done. We hit rock on the hill, but we knew that," said Lane. "The racket should calm down now."

The library's new features should be completed in June, with the main entrance then shifted to the back of the building. In the meantime, patrons can access the library at the front door on Baltimore Street, and the rear door at the end of the parking lot.

Eagle hired subcontractors Troy Byers Excavating, Ralph Tolbert Masonry, Witmer's Plumbing and Heating, Shifler Electric and Bonded Applicators. The Besore Capital Campaign Committee raised over $600,000 to get Phase I going, and is anxious to raise the balance of the $1.2 million goal.Eagle Construction began work in early December, assigned to add a children's wing and upgrade other sections of the 50-year-old facility.
