The Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library has been anything but quiet lately, but it’s all for a good cause.

Ground was broken on Nov. 30 and excavation work began swiftly on the first phase of the renovation and expansion project. Phase 1 includes an addition, new heating and air conditioning, roof repair, handicap lift and entrance, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant bathrooms, adult reading room, upgraded front entrance, new program and children area.

About half of the $1.2 million fundraising goal has been met and will finance the work while officials continue to seek community support for two more phases of the planned project.
