Towne Singers to take Capitol stage for special performance

The historic Capitol Theatre will come to life with The Towne Singers and their special Holiday Prelude and 40th Anniversary Celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21. The 26 talented area vocalists under the new musical leadership of director Eric M. Griffith of Waynesboro will take the stage along with a variety of instrumentalists and musical guests providing a delightful Sunday afternoon of quality entertainment. The audience will be treated to many new musical selections by this popular crowd-pleasing group.
Returning as guest directors for a few numbers will be Clyde Johnson, the original director for The Towne Singers from 1972-1991, and David Wenerd, director from 1992 – 2009. Many soloists will be featured as well as superb instrumentalists including Lynn Lerew with The Slide Show trombone group. Musical accompaniment will be provided by pianist Gloria McCauley and Sam Hepfer on percussion. The Towne Singers with members from Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Shippensburg, Greencastle, Mercersburg, Scotland, St. Thomas and Fort Loudon will sing the following songs as a prelude to the holidays and in special celebration of 40 years of entertaining the community: From This Moment On, Christmas Is A’Comin, Come Follow The Band, Three Movements for Advent-Parts I & III, Mary Had A Baby, Themes on Fa-La-La, Learner & Lowe Medley, World of our Dreams, God Bless the USA, Country Medley, When I was A Lad, Time After Time, I’ll Be Seeing You, Saints Go Marching In and Passages.
Tickets are on sale for $19 including the service fee. All seats are reserved. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more people. The group rate is $15, plus one $5 service fee per group.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the Capitol Theatre Box Office at (717) 263-0202. The Box Office is open Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m .and one hour before show time. Tickets may be purchased in advance and held at the door to be picked up the afternoon of the show.

The Towne Singers group was founded by Jane and Chuck Butler in 1970. The group has performed throughout South-Central Pennsylvania as well as many countries in Europe, such as Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Great Britain. Many of their concerts have been fundraisers for a variety of local benefits. In addition, they provide entertainment for special parties, banquets, seasonal events and churches.
