Greencastle police are sponsoring a bicycle registration effort. From today through Wednesday, Aug. 4, they will put identification stickers on bicycles at no cost. Local residents are encouraged to fill out a form at the station and get the stickers attached immediately.
The department periodically receives bicycles which were found in the borough, and the officers have no idea who they belong to, said police chief John Phillippy. Currently several are in a storeroom, and no one has come to claim them. The agency would like them and all lost bikes returned to their proper owners.
The registration will run through the completion of the James P. Oliver Memorial Bike Race, set for the afternoon of Aug. 4 during Old Home Week.
