Spring has arrived and with it First Fridays begin on May 3 in Greencastle.

The downtown shops stay open from 5 to 8 p.m. and team up with local artists, vendors and performers for an evening of entertainment, food and shopping.

May's theme is “Art In Bloom”, featuring full scale window paintings throughout the downtown by Greencastle-Antrim High School art students. Viewers can vote for the  favorite window by putting a dollar in the adjoining box. The money will be given to the artists’ favorite charity.

There will be a free kids craft event of painting a terra cotta pot/saucer and planting a flower held in the parking lot of Frederick Seibert Associates, Inc., 20 W. Baltimore Street, sponsored by Worx Graphic Design, Joyful Arts Studio, Phillips Seed and True Value.

Live music will be provided by the Greencastle-Antrim High School Jazz Ensemble, Choir and Band. Music will be located in front of Susquehanna Bank on the square.

First Friday will have wine and beer tastings: Tuscarora Mountain Winery, featuring wine tasting at their location; Highline Restaurant and Railway Lounge, featuring tastings of their house Sangria; and John Allison Public House, featuring samples of Troegs Brewery from 6 to 8 p.m., where patrons can enter to win a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.

Downtown restaurants will be open and food will also be available on or near the square.

The First Friday Committee and the Greencastle Area Arts Council have invited many artists to share their talents during the event. Weather permitting, many of the participants will be set up outside and showcasing a mix of pottery, prints, photography, homemade soaps, mixed media, pet supplies, home goods and jewelry.
