Downtown After Dark invites people to visit Greencastle at night

A group of downtown businesses wants to keep the momentum of First Friday going during the winter months. They have banded together to create Downtown After Dark, which will premier February 1, and continue in March and April. Then the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce will resume its First Friday celebrations through the fall.

From 5 to 8 p.m. the participating businesses will have their doors open, with in-store specials and activities. The merchants, located on Baltimore, Carlisle and Franklin streets, are: Joyful Arts Studio, Balance Yoga Studio, Sweet Myrtle, Upscale Consignment, Bob's Florist, Anna's Paperworks, Sweet Pea Dessert/Fairy Godmother, and John Allison Public House.

"Everyone likes First Friday," explained Arelis Torres from Sweet Pea. "It brings in artists, people and business. We want to keep the continuity so it's easy to remember."

Informal discussions among the store owners revealed that something was missing this time of year, she added, and they wanted to sponsor a night out. As a result, her title of Downtown After Dark was adopted, and the businesses agreed to stay open longer hours.

John Flannery, owner of John Allison Public House, said he would continue to offer his year-round Friday night specials.

"Our goal is to create and maintain a place for our community to embrace, feel comfortable at, and enjoy."
