Jerseys top memorabilia list at G-A MAAX auction

Rowan Lewis, 14, and her brother Thomas, 10, with a display of items to be auctioned off on Saturday night. The memorabilia was donated by their dad and his business partner to benefit G-A MAAX.

An auction Saturday is geared towards sports enthusiasts, and proceeds will benefit G-A MAAX. The John Allison Public House is the setting for a sports and memorabilia auction at 7 p.m. Oct. 13. Rick Lewis and Keith Cole, owners of LC Sports Memorabilia, donated autographed items of professional athletes, such as jerseys, bats and helmets. Artwork will be available, too. Both fit the purpose of the committee, to support the Greencastle-Antrim school district by "maximizing arts and athletic x-cellence". The committee is raising money to pay back the district for its upgrades to Kaley Field.

The framed jerseys carry the names Ripken, Roethlisberger, Robinson, Namath and more. The signatures are authenticated. "You wouldn't want to wear these," said committee member Keri Lewis.

Matt Hurley donated his services as auctioneer. Because of his generosity, as well as that of John Flannery, owner of the restaurant, ticket prices were kept low, she added. They are $15 per couple and $10 per individual. And the merchandise is intended to attract people who love sports or art.

"Mary Bock will do a pen and ink drawing of your home, and the winner can upgrade to pastel colors," continued Lewis. "Missy Ball has a painting on turkey feathers, and Susquehanna Bank donated a print of Martin's Mill Bridge by Mark Twain Noe."

There will also be smaller items for sale through a silent auction. Tickets are available at Phillips Office Solutions, Graphics Universal, and Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce. They will also be sold at the door. Each ticket holder will be entered into a drawing for a door prize.

What to buy

No matter one's favorite athlete or team, the merchandise is sure to ring a nostalgic bell with just about anyone who follows major league sports.

The partial list of items includes jerseys from Cal Ripken, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Whitey Ford, Sam Huff, Brooks Robinson, Joe Namath, Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw and Michael Vick. There is also a Joe Montana helmet and a Pete Rose bat.
