Indigo Rise out of Hagerstown will perform during Greencastle’s First Friday. Formed about a year ago, the band is comprised of Ruthy Stenger Japzon, keyboard and vocals; Chad Davis, guitar and vocals; Jim Lockard, bass and vocals; and Jason Brookens, drums.

On Sept. 2, First Friday in Greencastle is taking an opportunity to thank its patrons with a special customer appreciation night. For one night only, everyone can enjoy special discounts and promotions at select downtown businesses. A card detailing the promotions can be picked up at the First Friday table on the square or at participating businesses on the night of the event.

Headlining First Friday is Indigo Rise, one of Hagerstown's newest and hottest bands, known for their country rock sound. Indigo Rise formed about a year ago and features Ruthy Stenger Japzon on keyboard and vocals, Chad Davis on guitar and vocals, Jim Lockard on bass and vocals, and Jason Brookens on drums.

Opening for Indigo Rise is Claire Martin, who will be performing various vocal selections. She is from Waynesboro and has been singing and acting most of her life with credits that include Washington County Playhouse, Waynesboro Children's Theater Troupe, Potomac Playmakers and Trinity Players.

Instead of cooking that night, consider stopping by one of the downtown restaurants for dinner. Plus, Mason Dixon BBQ will have free samples on hand. For dessert, Mikie's Ice Cream will be selling sweet treats on the square. Tracey's Orchard will also have fresh peaches for sale.

This year, First Friday features free wine and beer tastings at each event. Tuscarora Mountain Winery will be featuring their wines at their location, and John Allison Public House will have samples from Troeg's Brewery.  Highline Coffeehouse and Café is featuring free coffee tastings.

Many artists and vendors are taking part in this month's First Friday, including those who specialize in cartoon caricatures, bottle cap jewelry, handmade soap, photography, feather extensions, original paintings in various media, pottery, handwoven textiles and jewelry.
