Sidewalk Days comes to town July 8 and 9
The weather looks fine for this Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9, for the 49th annual Sidewalk Days in downtown Greencastle.
This year's event, sponsored by Lumber Direct, will feature nearly 100 vendors participating including those offering BBQ sandwiches, walking tacos, gourmet grilled cheese, caramel popcorn and luscious creamy ice cream. Live entertainment will be offered on the square, while artisans and craftspeople will showcase their talents and there will be live demonstrations of a variety of do-it-yourself projects.
This year for the first time ever, a portion of Baltimore Street will be closed to all traffic on Friday from 7 AM until 7 PM and again on Saturday from 8 AM until 4 PM. "Closing the road to all traffic has been discussed for many years and this year we decided to apply for permission from Penn Dot because of the very real concern for pedestrian and vendor safety," said Georgina Cranston, executive director of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce. Recognizing the enormous effort this requires on the part of the local fire and police personnel, the chamber has solicited donations from areas businesses, to offer a small token of appreciation to the volunteers of the event.
"As usual, our local businesses have really stepped up to help us carry out this event," said Cranston. "In addition to our main sponsor, Lumber Direct, we are proud to showcase Corning Credit Union and Franklin County Visitor's Bureau (entertainment sponsors) as well as E.L.M. Shoes and Manitowoc (Volunteer Sponsors). Other companies such as Waste Management and AC&T are providing in-kind services and we are blessed to have a great core of volunteers including the Lions Club of Greencastle who man the chamber table during the two-day event.”
