Team Letterkenny, Franklin County General Authority, and Pennsylvania & Southern Railway held a special presentation Friday celebrating the completion of significant railroad improvements benefitting Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD), Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) and Cumberland Valley Business Park.

The presentation was at Hays Development Center, 5121 Innovation Way, Chambersburg. Congressman Bill Shuster, Sen. Rich Alloway, and Col. Deacon Maddox, LEAD Commander, made remarks.

The $888,000 project was funded jointly by Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority, Pennsylvania & Southern Railway, and PennDOT.

In addition to upgrading substandard track, the project also included the installation of a by-pass track that reduces overall travel time through the business park and LEAD by 1.5 hours.

The time reduction significantly increases the efficiency of the rail system, which directly impacts the military readiness and value of LEAD and LEMC.

Furthermore, the upgrades provide greater efficiencies for those park tenants who utilize rail for the shipment of goods and services.
