No tax increase in 2016 Greencastle budget

The real estate tax rate in Greencastle will stay the same in 2016.

Greencastle Borough Council held a special meeting Thursday afternoon to ratify the Tax Levy Ordinance for 2016. The board maintained the current rate of 13 mills, equal to 130 cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for all property within the municipality.

The members also raised the Sewer Rate Ordinance for the new year. Beginning with the first billing period in 2016, the minimum quarterly use of 9,000 gallons will cost each customer $64.98, up from $58.05. The charge per thousand gallons above that will be $7.22, up from $6.45. The 12 percent increase was deemed necessary to meet operating expenses.
