Antrim Township supervisors approve overdue landfill agreement

PAT FRIDGEN, Echo Pilot

One-half of the Municipal Host Compensation Agreement was finally signed. Antrim Township and Waste Management have been negotiating for a year, as the prior five-year agreement expired on Dec. 31, 2011. Supervisors Fred Young III, James Byers, John Alleman and Rick Baer approved an agreement on Dec. 18 at the regular meeting, to be sent to Waste Management for approval at that end. Pat Heraty, an employee of Waste Management, recused himself from the vote and discussion.

Waste Management owns Mountain View Reclamation, the landfill which sits partially in Antrim Township. Mountain View Reclamation senior district manager John Wardzinski represented the landfill during the talks on fees to be remitted to the township on a quarterly basis.

The supervisors also unanimously passed the 2013 budget, with $3.023 million in expenses, slightly less than the expected revenue. The real estate tax levy will remain at zero mills.

Young reported that trucks heading south on U. S. 11 for World Kitchen have been veering right onto Williamsport Pike, causing disruption in residential neighborhoods when the drivers realize they are on the wrong road. The board considered possible ways to keep the trucks on the correct path, and will ask World Kitchen to clarify directions to its vendors.
