NEWVILLE – Greencastle-Antrim will be sending four athletes to states following a collectively strong showing at Saturday's District 3 cross country championships hosted by Big Spring High School.
Taryn Parks and Weber Long gave G-A a pair of runner-up finishes in their respective Class AA races, while Bella Weaver and Danny Miller also punched their tickets to the PIAA cross country championships on Nov. 2.
Parks finished second behind fellow senior rival Marlee Starliper of Northern York, who posted a winning time of 17:21 to Parks' 17:40. Parks will be seeking her fourth PIAA cross country medal this coming weekend at Hershey, having placed first, second and third throughout her high school career.
Weaver also ran an impressive race, with the sophomore finishing in 20:01 to earn a trip to Hershey.
Long was a close second in the boys' AA race, posting a time of 15:49 to cross less than three seconds behind winner Ben Kuhn of Wyomissing (15:46).
Also only a sophomore, Long will be making his second trip to the state meet.
Miller, a senior, finished 20th overall in the boys' race, qualifying for states.
The PIAA cross country championships will be contested at Hershey's Parkview Cross Country Course.
