Blue Devils roll past Rockets

GREENCASTLE – Greencastle-Antrim rolled past James Buchanan on Saturday, defeating the Rockets 7-1 in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division match.

The Blue Devils scored six goals in the first half before extending their advantage to 7-0 in the second period. JB got on the board late to avoid the shutout.

Gershon Bangura scored three goals for G-A while Nathan Kirkwood, Adam Murr, Luke Montedoro and Dominic Facchina found the back of the net for the Blue Devils.

Murr also added two assists.

"This was finally the game we were looking for from a finishing standpoint," Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said. "We have had a good run of the play in all of our games, we were just lacking the finishing part. We were able to put it all together today and hop on James Buchanan early and often. I'm hoping this is the start of a good run for the boys."

G-A won Saturday's junior varsity game, 3-0.

MERCERSBURG – Greencastle-Antrim fell to James Buchanan 5-4 in overtime on Saturday.

The Blue Devils led 4-2 in the second half before the Rockets rallied to tie, and eventually net the game-winner in the extra period.

Avery Parks and Courtney Andruczk both scored two goals for G-A. Parks' second goal gave the Blue Devils a 4-2 lead prior to a pair of successful penalty kicks by JB forced overtime. There, Addie Crouse scored the decisive goal for the Rockets.

"I know the game did not end the way we hoped but I am very proud of the way my team played," G-A coach Katie Herman said. "My offense connected passes brilliantly. My defense pushed up to support the offense. So we put some pieces together that we have been struggling to do in the past few games. Looking forward to building off of this momentum going into next week."
